The Friends of Gasparilla – a children’s book by Clive Wilson

I am very pleased to announce that I have just published my first children’s book The Friends of Gasparilla. All profits from the sale of the book will be donated to The Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund.

The book is available to buy online at www.thefriendsofgasparilla.com  The cost is £6.99 inc postage and packaging. Alternatively you can send a cheque payable to the Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund with your address details and a copy will be sent out to you.

The Friends of Gasparilla tells the story of the wild animals who lived on Gasparilla Nature Preserve, Florida, where the author’s family had a home for several years.

“It’s the first day of school for the animal friends of Gasparilla. Little do they know that a fantastic adventure awaits and that sometimes the most important lessons aren’t always learned in the classroom.”

Initially written for my grandchildren, the book is illustrated by my daughter-in-law artist Donna Wilson. You too can now share the fun and adventures of The Friends of Gasparilla in this exciting new book that children will enjoy.

All profits from the sale of the book will be donated to the Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund.

A summer of fundraising brings in over £5500 for the charity

During a busy summer of events, the ‘Boys of 66’ and other sporting heroes helped to raise cash for Lisa’s charity.

Firstly a piece of memorabillia signed by the entire 1966 World Cup Winning Squad was auctioned at a Gala Dinner in aid of Womens Aid. The piece donated by Clive sold for £1500 with the proceeds being split between the two charities.

Following that, the ‘Ossie and Hutch’ Race Day pulled in £2000 for the charity with items donated by many including Lynn Osgood, Clive Wilson, Mick Channon, Chelsea Football Club and many others including Ian Hutchinson’s partner Elaine. Several iconic pieces were auctioned including a signed print of Saints Winning FA Cup Final goal signed by the legendary Peter Osgood himself, a Formula 1 Lewis Hamilton montage, along with a visit to Mick Channons stables also helped raise money for the charities.

The Royal Garden Hotel in London opened the ‘Bobby Moore ‘ Bar for the month of July to recognise the 50th anniversary of England winning the World Cup in 1966. Clive donated a rare piece signed by the whole of the England World Cup Squad. This was sold in a silent auction for £1500 with 50% going to the Bobby Moore Fund and 50% going to The Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund. The bar was opened by Bobby’s good friend and sports writer Jeff Powell.

The New Forest Marathon and other distance races was sponsored by SES Autoparts Ltd and the Wilson family joined in the event. Ross ran in the 10k event and Kelly, Riley and Aimee ran in the 5k event. Donna and Kelly both has stalls selling their goods. There were over 4000 entries in the various events which took place at the New Forest Showground near Brockenhurst. SES had their own marquee and invited staff, suppliers, and customers to participate in what turned out to be a fantastic family fun-day enjoyed by all. Add to that, over £2000 was donated to the charity by runners, suppliers and customers. Ex Saints and TV pundit Francis Benali started the race ahead of his run for Macmillan Cancer.

Fontwell Race Day raises over £7000

It had been billed as a triple celebration; The Royal Wedding, Clive & Tricia’s 40th Wedding Anniversary and their company; SES Autoparts 20th Anniversary.

Some 66 guests attended the event at Fontwell park which as well as being a triple celebration had been organised as a fundraiser to celebrate the life of Lisa Wilson.

With everyone in great spirits following the Royal Wedding earlier that day, the main event on the race card was ‘The Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund’ handicap chase.

Over 5,000 were attending Fontwell where there was a raffle, a bucket collection, a silent auction and the main auction took part in the main restaurant and collectively raised in excess of £7,000.

Clive Wilson spoke about the charity in the marquee and in the main restaurant before the auction as well as being interviewed by Channel 4’s Derek Thompson for the television.

The auction consisted of some fantastic prizes that had been provided by people from the horse racing world, some major worldwide celebrities and friends who contributed holidays; Channel 4 put up a day at the races, Mick Channon had put up a day to his stables at West Isley, and the famous Godolphin stables had donated a set of silks signed by Frankie Dettori and Ahmed Ajtebi. Jenson Button had donated a signed cap and picture which were framed, and the World’s Number 1 female recording artist, Celine Dion, had donated a personally signed photograph. On top of this Clive’s and Tricia’s friends, Paul and Ross Tomlinson, donated a holiday in Florida which sold for over £1,000, Nigel and Fiona Morgan donated a week in their holiday home in Switzerland, and Steve and Shirley Thomas donated a week at their holiday home in Cyprus.
