Fifth Lisa Wilson Golf Day raises over £6000

The fifth annual golf day at Wellow where Lisa worked and played golf was a great success. Over 150 members played in the members competition on an absolute heaven sent day the sun and the golf really hotted up. As well as the members competition there was a separate sponsors competition won by Sue Bakewell and most surprisingly Clive Wilson Lisa’s dad. Ninety two attended the sponsors dinner and 72 the members barbeque. Mr Southampton himself Lawrie McMenemy presented the many prizes and also auctioned a day at St. Marys on his for hospitality to watch Saints. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Grumbleweeds’ who put on a great cabaret. The evening was topped of with dancing to ‘For One Night Only’. With the raffle auction, members donations and generous sponsorship £6300 was raised. Wellow golf club put on a first class day and donated the guests green fees to the charity.

Many thanks to all concerned.

Kirkland Bar donates horse race winnings

Lisa’s cousin Mandy works in the Kirkland Bar in Fife in Scotland. Most of the customers are keen racing fans so they had a bet on Lisathedaddy when she won the Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund Handicap, and donated all of the winnings to the charity. Many thanks to everyone up there in Bonnie Scotland.

Orient Express donation

Tricia and Clive enjoyed a day on the Orient Express (a Christmas present from Scott Kelly Riley Ross and Donna) and met a couple called Shona and Alan (who was celebrating his 60th birthday) who made a donation to the fund. Thanks for your genorosity.

Lisathedaddy wins ‘The Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund Handicap’ and raises over £1000

For the fourth time in thirteen outings Lisathedaddy romped home to victory in a race sponsored by Tricia and Clive’s company SES Autoparts. The race had been named after the charity to raise awareness for the Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund. Over 20 friends and family joined Clive and Tricia to watch this exciting race unfold at Lingfield, once again Lisathedaddy proved to be ‘the daddy’ winning by a length. Ridden by Richard Kingscote who rode a great race she accelerated away down the home straight to win by a length living up to her reputation as favourite. In an emotional prize presentation Clive Wilson presented Tricia with the trophy, great thanks must again go to trainer Brendan Powell and everyone else concerned. A collection was held on the day by students of Southampton Solent University where Lisa studied and over £1000 was raised for the charity.

Thomas Toft Memorial Trust donates funds

After running a very successful trust fund for eleven years, the trustees of the Thomas Toft Memorial Trust Fund have decided to pass on the balance of funds to the Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund. Thomas Toft was a second year student at Southampton Institute when he tragically contracted malaria whilst visiting his Danish parents in Ghana. Following Thomas’s death his parents set up the memorial fund to aid students who had overcome some adversity or demonstrated a need for additional funding. Over the eleven years the fund has been running some ten students have received bursaries to help with their studies.

The trustees felt that as the funds were winding down now was an appropriate time to pass on the funding to Lisa’s charity.

The Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund was set up with similar aims and at a moving ceremony at Southampton Solent University the last two ‘Toft’ students received their bursaries from trustees Dr Jeff Richards and Dr Howard Rose. They then presented a cheque for the sum of £5666.35 to Clive and Tricia Wilson.

This now brings the total raised for the charity to in excess of £110,000.
