Wayne Bridge Chelsea shirt raises £1300

At a recent Eastleigh Football Club fund raising dinner two items were offered for auction on behalf of the Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund.

The first item was a signed print of F1 star Kimi Raikonen and his McLaren Mercedes car that was auctioned to Dave Bennetto of Mamouth signs for a mamouth £650.

The second item was a shirt donated by former Saints player Wayne Bridge who is now at Chelsea. This was eventually sold to Eastleigh Manager Paul Doswell who immediately donated it to the club where it now hangs in the sponsors lounge. We would like to thank both of you for your amazing support.

Rowing boat launched in Lisa’s memory

On Friday 22nd October a £9000 rowing boat was launched into the river Itchen at Coalporters Rowing Club in Southampton in memory of Lisa. The boat was named ‘Lisa The Daddy’ after Lisa’s e-mail address and website. The boat, which will be used all over the country in University competitions, was launched on behalf of the Southampton Institute rowing club. Lisa was a student at the Institute and graduated there with a 2-1 in Business Management. The Dean of the Institute Roger Brown attended the ceremony along with the Mayor of Southampton who said a few words about Lisa and the Charity and offered his support to the family. Tricia and Clive Wilson also attended with Lisa’s brothers Scott and Ross and Scott’s wife Kelly and Ross’s partner Donna. Several other dignitaries also attended the ceremony along with members of the rowing club. A ladies four from the institute crewed the boat on its maiden voyage. Special thanks must be given to Gus Mckechnie for his help in making this happen.

New student intake

We can confirm that the second intake of students to benefit from the charity have now been named. This year there will be five new students who have been given the award of £1000 per annum. They are: Kate Hayne, 18, from Romsey;  Stacey Parry, 18, from Bishops Waltham;  Kim Curtis, 21, from Southampton;  Xiadjuan Yan, currently residing in Southampton both on a top up degree; and Graham Hunter from Blantyre Glasgow who has been awarded the first sporting scholarship. On top of this, four students – James Denyer, Lucie Jones, Charlotte Field and Madina Boyo-Jalloh – have been accepted for the second year of their scholarships. Congratulations to all of you.

Charity breaks through the £50,000 barrier

We are pleased to announce that the charity has now raised in excess of £50,000.

Following the last two events, this amazing total has now been collected in Lisa’s name. This means Lisa has left a legacy of over 50 years of education to less fortunate students. Lisa would be extremely proud to know that she has helped so many youngsters fulfil their ambitions as she had the opportunity to do. With a bursary of £1000 per annum over three years, at least 17 students will benefit from the funding. We are about to announce the names of this year’s successful candidates who will be going into university in October.

We are now looking at new challenges. Already there is a commitment from several people to run in next year’s London Marathon, the application deadline for this is October. Anyone wishing to run and raise money for the fund should contact Clive Wilson on 077989 22222 or e-mail [email protected]

May we take this opportunity to thank everyone for their fantastic support.
