Kemal Omag receives “Outstanding Achievement Award”

After three years of studying, student and bursary recipient Kemal Omag was presented with the Lisa Wilson ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ following his graduation ceremony on November 5th. Kemal graduated with an outstanding B.A. Hons in graphic design.

We would like to wish him every success in the pursuit of a new career, he has been a great example on behalf on the Lisa Wilson students.

New bursary recipients for 2008

On October 27th at a ceremony at Southampton Solent University this year’s intake of bursary recipients were presented with their cheques by Clive and Tricia Wilson.  This puts the number of students who have benefitted from the awards up to 35.  The ceremony was attended by 40 people including parents, tutors, staff, and many others. Widening Participation Officer Geeta Uppal welcomed everybody and Clive Wilson spoke about Lisa and the awards.  He then showed a pictorial DVD, put together by Lisa’s brother Ross, called ‘Lisa’s Dream’.  This showed her journey around the world before she tragically died en route to Ayres rock.
Pro Vice Chancellor Academic Jane Longmore replied on behalf of the university stating that the ‘Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund’ had now become an integral part of the university.

In addition to the 7 new students a further 11 will be entering their second and third years; this includes World Champion Boccha player Ali Lalani who had taken a year out because of the Olympic games.

The 5th Lisa Wilson Scholarship Award presentation

The fifth presentation of the Lisa Wilson Scholarship Awards was made on November 1st at Southampton Solent University. At a moving ceremony five new students received their bursaries over twenty people were in attendance including new Vice Chancellor Professor Van Gore. At this years award one of the first recipients of the award Sean Lystor who has recently graduated with a 1st degree BA Honors in Architectural Technology spoke of the benefit the bursary had made to him. He was also awarded the Lisa Wilson Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of his efforts to overcome adversity by Mr & Mrs Wilson.

Olympic Candidate

One of last year’s recipients of the award Ali Lalani (pictured below) also spoke of the benefit the bursary had made to him. Despite being severely disabled, Ali has overcome his physical disabilities to become and is a member of Great Britain’s successful Bocha World Championship team, recently winning the gold in Canada. Ali spoke with great passion and eloquence and dedicated his gold medal to Lisa and thanked the charity for its support. This year Ali has taken a year off to concentrate on the Olympic games in Beijing, as a separate presentation Clive and Tricia Wilson handed over a sponsorship cheque on behalf of their company Romsey based SES Autoparts to help him with his expenses.
